Plot Summary: Parrish McLean lives with his mother Ellen on Sala Post's tobacco plantation in the Connecticut River Valley. His mother winds up marrying Sala's rival Judd Raike, ruthless planter who wants to drive Sala out of business. Judd insists that Parrish learn the business from the ground up.

Notes: Delmer Daves replaced Joshua Logan as director.

Joshua Logan originally wanted Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh to play the parents, and he tested Warren Beatty and Jane Fonda, among others, for the younger characters.

Parrish was filmed in Windsor and other Connecticut locales in 1960. Seventy-five local Chaffee School girls got paid $21 a day to be extras in the movie and catch a glimpse of the blond teen idol, Troy Donahue, and most Windsor residents of the time remember the filming.
